Leica M Monochrom – MM

Hello all together!

It has been a while since I posted last time here. Have been really busy at work, but you have to work a lot to buy Leica gear ;-) My order for the M Monochrom has been set shortly after the announcement this year and finally about two weeks ago my trusty Leica dealer Mr. Werle called me that the desired object has arrived in Vienna. The Digitalstore (located Stiftgasse) is photographers heaven in the middle of Austria’s capitol.  They recently opened  a dedicated Leica Boutique in-store. The event for that has been great, a lot of special offers and of course coffee and cake.

M Monochrom

The day I picked up the camera it was late arriving at home. So I just checked everything – I believed – and took some test shots of my cat. The next day my niece came over for a visit so I put the battery into the charger prior to that. BUT THE LEDs STAYED DARK. I tried several outlets and a different cable. Nothing. Assuming only the LEDs are defect I put the battery after about an hour and a half into the camera. Again nothing. It turned out the battery packed into the box was indeed not able to charge in any way. Mr. Werle immediately replaced it. But all together a very frustrating situation!

Walk with the M9 / M9-P – Summilux 50 ASPH combo

Hello Internet,

some time ago I grabbed my M9-P with the 50 mm Summilux ASPH attached to it and walked around my home town. Let me share here some of the pictures taken. They have been edited in Lightroom 4.

I have the camera always set to take DNG + black and white JPEGs. I usually edit them both (or copy the changes applied to the DNG to the black and white JPEG).

You can click them to get a larger view. Hope you enjoy.

Visiting „Schloss Esterházy“ with the Leica M9 / M9-P

Hello Internet,

recently I visited Schloss Esterházy in Eisenstadt as there are at the moment some very interesting exhibitions. Along I took the Leica M9 / M9-P with the Summilux-M 1:1,4/50mm ASPH. As it is only allowed to take pictures without a flash the 1.4 aperture comes in very handy, although I had to pump up the ISO in some situations.

Let me share some of the pictures taken. You can click them to enlarge.

Comparison M9 / M9-P – X-Pro1 – wide open

Hello Internet,

let me present you today a quick comparison between the Leica M9 / M9-P and the Fuji X-Pro1. Both cameras have been set to f/1.4, their base ISO and metered in aperture priority mode.

This is no scientific test, just a few shots in the backyard. The files have been exported in Lightroom 4. You can click the images to get a 1600px version of them.

Lenses used: Leica: Summilux 50mm ASPH latest version, Fuji: XF35

Let me know which one you prefer in the comments below.

First a shot with some tweaking.

Hello Internet,

today just a „quick&dirty“ post. Just grabbed my M9-P and set it to render JPEGs in black and white. Let me show you some of the pictures. They have not been touched at all and are straight from the camera. Resized to 1600 px using Capture One. Click them to enlarge. I hope you enjoy them.

Are you exited for the upcoming Leica event this week? I am definitely!

Have a nice evening,
Picki

LEICA Viewfinder Magnifier M 1.4x

Hello Internet,

my latest Leica purchase is the Viewfinder Magnifier M 1.4x. I hesitated a bit buying it but finally am very happy to have it now. Its a bit pricy – comes in for about € 250,–. Also I have not been sure if you see the 50mm frame lines, but after using it for some time I can tell you see them if you push your eye close enough to the viewfinder.

From the point of usability it is a thumbs up from my side. The rangefinder patch is much better to see and focusing speeded up.
